Driving is a life skill that proves to be beneficial if you are done with all the precautionary measures. If not then it poses a threat to you along with anyone on the same road as you. The threat tends to intensify during foggy, rainy, or in between sunset and sunrise weather when the sight visibility is not clear.
Safer Drivers Course is a program facilitated in LTrent Driving School. This course is an additional course for young learners to help them practice driving by taking maximum safety measures. They make their learners practice at night times as well with the availability of planted real-life distractions that train the learners into being alert.
Risks for young drivers
Compared to others, young adult drivers are at more risk. Bicycles and Pedestrians are hard to see during poor visibility hours due to lack of light. They do not have lights on bicycles or people so the young vehicle drivers sometimes are not alert of them being on the road, which is the maximum reason why accidents take place.
. Especially at night, drivers need to be more concentrated which lacks in young drivers as they are easily distracted. While driving, they play loud music or engage in phone calls
Tips to avoid these threats
- Speed management
You should manage your speed according to the range of the adjusted headlights. Make sure you see up to an adequate distance of what lies ahead in the path you are driving.
- Avoid direct bright headlights
Sometimes the headlights that other vehicles adjust are too bright and dazzling that can stress your eyes. Avoid looking directly at them. Stick to your lane. If your eyes are strained due to it, slow down or completely halt for some time and let your eyes adjust back.
- Avoid using bright headlights
Likewise, you need to avoid using bright headlights as well so that other vehicle drivers do not have difficulty. So, dim your lights when approaching other vehicles or when another vehicle is approaching you.
- Give warning
Do not just overtake any vehicle. Flash your headlights on high beam to give a warning for you to overtake another vehicle.
- Use fog lights
There are front and rear fog lights that you can use for better sight during foggy weather. But make sure to switch them off when your sight gets better.
- Clean your windscreen regularly
Keep your lights and windscreen thoroughly clean from inside and outside. Wipeout any dust particles or insects that may affect your visibility.
- Hazardous warning lights
Use hazardous warning lights only when your vehicle needs sudden stopping or going at a slower pace than normal.
- Use of horn
Do not use horn just to irritate other drivers into moving quickly and creating unnecessary noise. Use it only to warn others of danger.
Conclusion
Night driving practice is an important lesson that is not meant to be skipped when taking a driver’s course. Take into account the above-mentioned guidelines to avoid any accidents during nighttime or bad weather.
